The 42nd St. Gallen Symposium - Leaders of Tomorrow at Swiss Re's headquarters in Zurich
22 May 2012
May 2012 - Swiss Re welcomed 85 students and young professionals for a one-day conference at its Zurich headquarters. The participants, graduate and postgraduate students representing more than 60 institutions, 25 study areas and 30 countries, were selected by a jury after submitting essays on the topic of the 42nd St. Gallen Symposium: “Facing Risk”. The St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award is sponsored by Swiss Re as part of the St. Gallen Symposium.
The St. Gallen Symposium provides a forum for two days of dialogue among current and future generations of leaders from business, science, politics and society. This year, Swiss Re's Executives again took a very active role in the Symposium. Walter Kielholz, Swiss Re's Chairman of the Board of Directors, gave the opening keynote speech. David Cole, Swiss Re's Chief Risk Officer, addressed important approaches to managing major risks in his session on “Putting a price on risk”. Jean-Claude Trichet, former President of the European Central Bank ECB and member of Advisors to Swiss Re also shared his thoughts on the ECB’s role over the past decade and its handling of the current sovereign debt crisis in an interview.
The participants' visit to Swiss Re prior to the Symposium provided an excellent opportunity to introduce Swiss Re’s business to an international group of extraordinary young people. It also provided the opportunity for a lively debate and for the older participants to listen to the views of the next generation.
