Tony Tan is elected President of Singapore

Swiss Re Advisory Panel member Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam has been elected President of Singapore.
The Presidential office in Singapore is a largely impartial constitutional position, but one of symbolic importance. He will accede to office on 1 September 2011.
Tony Tan was formerly the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore; Deputy Chairman and Executive Director of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation; and Chairman of the National Research Foundation.
Tony Tan has been part of the Advisory Panel since its inception in 2006. The Advisory Panel, which meets twice a year, provides feedback to the Board of Directors and Swiss Re senior management both on Swiss Re strategy and expected impacts of major global events on the insurance industry.
