HIV 30 years on

Issue #12

Over the past 30 years, more than 30 million people around the world have died of AIDS-related diseases and 34 million people around the world are currently living with HIV.

For the lucky few, treatment has made it possible for HIV to control the disease, although there is no cure. Developing a vaccine as well as changing risky behaviour patterns are vital. In 2010 alone, 2.7 million people were newly infected with HIV. The re/insurance industry has an important role in extending coverage for HIV-positive lives and supporting their full participation in society.
