Human enhancement aims to push the boundaries of performance beyond simple practice and repetition. It covers fields from mental and physical performance enhancing drugs; artificial limbs or body parts; electro-magnetic stimulation; gene doping; even the creation of life-or-death situations.
Yet there is much that we do not know about these technologies, many of which are in their infancy or developing rapidly. We do not have widespread clinical trials, particularly with a view to long term side effects. Although human enhancement is not directly covered by insurance, there is plenty of risk which could at some point manifest itself in claims.
